Questions & Answers

How are Naturopathic and Conventional Doctors Alike?

Both are required to study the biomedical sciences at a four year accredited graduate medical school. Doctors of both disciplines can diagnose a disease, predict its course, and prescribe treatment. In many states naturopathic doctors have the same prescriptive rights as conventional doctors, except for narcotics.

How is Naturopathic Medicine Different from Conventional Medicine?

The thing that makes naturopathic doctors unique is the philosophical approach and the therapies used. Naturopathic doctors (ND's) treat patients by addressing the environmental, lifestyle, attitudinal and emotional aspects of disease. This allows the naturopathic doctor to find and treat the cause of a disease using natural, non-invasive therapies that have been proven through clinical trials and empirical data to be safe and effective. Good medicine is integrating everything that is known and selecting the best choice for the patient in a given situation. As practitioners, we are all striving to treat our patients with the least amount of medicine and the most compassion, and we are all using the best of our education and clinical skills to assist our patients to live full and productive lives.

How are Naturopathic Doctors regulated?

In states that license naturopathic doctors, the profession is regulated. In these states, naturopathic doctors must pass national license examinations and must receive an education from an accredited four-year graduate level naturopathic medical school providing clinical medical experience. Actions are subject to review by a state board of examiners to ensure protection of the patient. Dr. Blankinship is licensed to practice naturopathic medicine in the state of Kansas.

What is the Cost to be seen by a Naturopathic Doctor?

Each patient is treated individually and according to their needs through specialized treatment plans. The cost varies according to treatment and visit. It is best to contact your naturopathic doctor for more detailed pricing information.
